One Million Cups of Coffee

This week my wife and I went to the Kauffman Entrepreneur Center for the weekly meeting of One Million Cups of Coffee in Kansas City, Missouri. We were blown away. There were over 200 professionals gathered to network and hear other professionals speak. In the era of Social Media, cloud-based applications, and finding jobs on Elance.com and Craigslist, it was really great to see that good old fashioned face-to-face networking is still alive and well. And the coffee was delicious!

The first group to present was Code for America, a team of software developers and web designers who work for different government agencies across the country. They create open sourced applications that can be used to help make cities work more efficiently. We were really impressed with their presentation and their passion for their work. Check out their website at www.codeforamerica.org to learn more or to find out what you can do to make your city better.

The next speaker was Callie England, founder of Rawxies – a company devoted to making natural healthy foods. It was really inspiring to hear her tell her story of growth and hard work. She has built her company from the ground up, and now is competing with the big food companies – the only difference is she is making natural food that works with your body to help you feel healthy and alive. See Callie’s beautiful food and check out some of her recipes at www.raxies.com.

One Million Cups of Coffee is an amazing idea. And this is not just in Kansas City – this is happening all over the country. Check to see if One Million Cups of Coffee is anywhere near you!
