Today VMA spent the morning at the 20/20 Leadership Business Expo at Kauffman Foundation, with Juniors and Seniors from area high schools talking about our business and the variety of web development careers and some skills/degrees required to become a future employee anywhere. We spoke with Juniors and Seniors from area high schools about our business. We also spoke about the variety of web development careers and skills/degrees required to become a future employee anywhere. While we didn’t know exactly what to expect, our team was impressed with the student’s professionalism and eagerness to get started working towards a career. The students… they were blown away at how much fun we have at work.
Besides telling a bunch of teenagers they can get paid to Instagram, we did try to impart some entrepreneurial spirit. We also tried to give them a friendly reminder of how to keep their professional identities safe. We got a few raised eyebrows when they were told that anything posted online stays online FOREVER…even when you delete it!
We had a great time and are honored to be included with such big names as Sprint and Sporting KC. Here is a copy of our flyer we passed out. We have noticed some of the smartest kids out there don’t really understand that your online reputation is visible to everyone. This generation also tends to use social media as a diary or sounding-off point. I think most adults would be horrified to see a digital record of their adolescent thoughts. So as a gentle reminder, we made a list of Career Limiting Moves guaranteed to make it difficult to find future employment.
